On Friday, July 24 at SHSF Church, Rev. Robert Murphy was ordained a transitional deacon for the Diocese of Burlington.
Bishop Coyne reminded us that "it takes a village".
Our community is so blessed with all those who helped in his formation
and made Friday an unforgettable and special day.
Thank you to all who helped with the preparation of the church and parish center,
the decorations, the hospitality, the baking of cookies and so much more!
Thanks to the Knights of Columbus, the ushers, servers,
and to Don and Jessica for the beautiful music.
Especially thanks for the prayers and the support during these unusual times of COVID-19. We are so blessed.
Please continue to keep Robert in your prayers!

A Mom's point of view from Kathy, Robert's Mom I feel so very blessed. It’s been a journey for me to come to the realization how amazing his life will be. At his young age of 25, he has chosen to commit himself to serving God and others. I once thought he would miss out on a family, and be limited by his decisions. I have grown to realize that his family will be expanded greatly to include the brotherhood of his fellow priests and the parishioners he will minister to. He will have the opportunity to be a the most intimate moments of people’s lives through the sacraments. So many of us search for the answer to the emptiness that fills many of our lives. He has discovered and will lead others to the joy that a genuine relationship with God brings. God’s grace will work him in a special way once he is ordained a priest, “in persona Christi”, in the person of Christ. All of us are on a faith journey. I am humbled that God has called one of my sons to serve him as a priest. What a joyous celebration the ordination will be! For many years parishioners at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington kneel after Mass and pray three Hail Marys for vocations. Two young men from this parish, Robert and Casey Weber from the Diocese of Memphis, will have been ordained to the transitional diaconate this year. Thank you for all your prayers and support for Robert and continue to pray for vocations! This coming Friday, Robert will be ordained a transitional deacon for the Diocese of Burlington. What that means is that Robert will be receiving the sacrament of Holy Orders. For many of us this is like the sacrament of marriage, but Robert is committing his life to serving God through the Church. After ordination, he will return to Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland where he will finish his studies in theology and his formation. He will also be a transitional Deacon which will allow him to serve as a Deacon at Mass, baptize, marry, and bury. Next year by this time he will be ordained a priest and serve the Diocese of Burlington. He will then be assigned a parish in Vermont. God Bless, Kathy Murphy |
